I have 7 dogs--yes that's a lot, yes it costs a lot to feed them--they are better cared for than most children so shut up.
I am also trying to plan a vacation. I want to take one of my dogs. This makes planning a vacation HELL.
Henry (boxer/staffie mix) is going to be boarded at the vet. He is just too large, wild and poorly behaved to take or let a friend watch.
Fraggle, Moxy and Abby (miniture poodle, JRT and border collie, respectively)are good girls and will be staying with family (everyone fights over who will get to keep Abby when we go on vacation--this is our first year with the other two but I expect the same type of fights to break out over Moxy....Fraggle is a bit more difficult but she's cute)
Tut (rat terrier) has been requested by a friend (and fellow trainer) and will be staying at her house while we are gone.
That leave Bear and Chloe (pit-aussie mix and beagle mix, respectively). I can board Chloe without reservation. She's a sweet and healthy. She'll be depressed when we get back but otherwise ok. Bear on the other hand HATES to be out of his element and has bad hips so boarding him at the vet leaves him depressed, sore and stiff because he has to lay on the cold concrete floor there. Therefore, (and because I love him more) I want to take him with me to the beach. There are exactly 5 pet-friendly places at the beach and they are all booked or unreasonably priced and most of them don't allow dogs bigger than 15 lbs. (B is about 70). These places allow kids--and I assure you that kids cause more damage than poor old B.
Argh--off to call more places so that I can get shot down.

I could so see B on a lounge chair with some sunglasses on, enjoying his vacation.
